Bidhannagar Mayor Krishna Chakraborty resigns, another massive blow to TMC
An alleged attack on Shaukat Molla in Bhangar has intensified political tensions in South 24 Parganas just days before polling, with accusations and counter-accusations emerging between rival parties. Several workers of the Trinamool Congress were reportedly injured in the incident, which took place late Sunday night when Molla was returning home after election campaigning. The Indian Secular Front has been accused of orchestrating the attack, a charge the party has firmly denied.
The incident occurred near the Chaltaberia area, where, according to claims by the Trinamool Congress, a group allegedly targeted Molla and his supporters. The situation quickly escalated, prompting the deployment of a large police force to restore order. Authorities confirmed that an investigation has been initiated, and action will be taken based on formal complaints. In protest, Trinamool supporters staged a road blockade late into the night, further heightening tensions in the region.
Molla described the incident as a “completely planned attack” and alleged that it was an attempt to create unrest ahead of the elections. He stated that party workers were specifically targeted and demanded swift arrests of those responsible. The claims come shortly after Trinamool leader Mamata Banerjee had publicly expressed concern over a possible threat to Molla’s life during campaigning, warning of strict action if any harm came to him.
The Indian Secular Front, however, rejected the allegations, stating that it had no involvement in the incident. The party accused the Trinamool Congress of attempting to manufacture tension in the area for political gain and to attract sympathy ahead of the elections. The denial has added another layer of confrontation to an already charged political atmosphere in Bhangar.
Bhangar has long been regarded as a politically sensitive constituency with a history of clashes, and the latest incident has once again raised concerns over maintaining law and order ahead of polling. While the administration has stated that the situation is under control and security arrangements have been strengthened, the episode underscores the rising volatility in the region as the election approaches.
